I need to know if you'd be bothered seeing some topics written in french that would be indicated with this -» (fr)

The goal would be to combine all the wisdom in the same place.   Wink

I'll wait for your replies and/or suggestions before doing anything.  Cool

I think that's a very generous idea. I'll still read them with the help of my good friend Mr Google Translate.  biggrin

The main question that I would have, is if we decide to allow this to happen, why couldn't the same post be done immediately after the French version in the English language.  I feel that any information that is posted should be available to all members or readers.

The suggestion is a good one, but I think that the % of readers that would know what was being said, or that could have and take the time to Google for a translation would be very small.  By having some posts in French, it might be a reason for those that find our English hard to understand, but can read and speak French inviting to become new members.  Then we have the problem of those that could or would not put in the English version.

All in all, I personally think that it might be workable.  Of course, there are others that would have to give the OK before it could happen.

That approval has already been given and he is now throwing the idea out to the populace to get their input for the idea.

I don't speak any of "that kind" of French  Wink  but I had the same feeling of bringing another group of people into our forum.  I don't think we can have a French only forum at this time but we don't want to turn anyone away because of their fluency with the English language.

I know only a few french phrases that my then-fiance taught me back in the 80s after she spent a summer in Belgium.  She said some Americans really butchered the language & looked very stupid & I believe the term is, boorish.  & or perhaps that's a British term.  As u can see, I'm already confused.  But if some guys here speak friend, more power to them!

Regarding the French.....

That topic has been brought up before in the past.   There are some translators out there, and some work better than others.

Over the years, we have always managed to struggle with those who speak another language and don't have full command of the King's English.   We sort of have to take a lesson from computers.  Regardless of what language it displays, the "heart" of all computers is English.

If we do go ahead an establish a "French" version, I can tell you what will happen.   Then we will need a Spanish version, an Italian version, a German version, etc.......   I'll leave it up to you if you want to have some translations, etc.....   I just can't officially start and add another section.   It will take more space, a much larger back up, and a few other problems I'm just not set up to deal with right now.

Right now, it has one thing against it, and that would be the space it requires.   And financially, I'm not set to add more space on the server right now, I'm pretty much strapped with all I've got now.

I think it would be wonderful if you were our "French" contact or representative... or if anyone else was fluent in some other language, if they offered to be a contact for that specific language.......   It would help to spread the word......

Hope this makes sense.
