This article recently appeared in the Wall Street Journal. I found the part about serotonin especially fascinating due to the part it plays in FM.

That is an amazing thought... I had no idea that the way my gut was feeling could influence the way the rest of my body was feeling.. at least not to that extent.  I know the vagus nerve has a great deal to do with your heart rate but didn't know it was the path from the gut-brain to the head-brain.. Of course, I had no idea there WAS a gut-brain..  Wild stuff.

Something new to throw into the medical mix eh.  THanks for the great link!!!

I still don't believe serotonin is all the answer.

For me antidepressants that affect the levels of serotonin do nothing at all and make things worse for me.

I do believe that serotonin levels are affected. but i also believe a number of other CNS chemicals are out of balance like Gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA)  and Dopamine and can cause more if the pain of fibro.

One neurochemical that takes my pain away for 3+ hours is adrenaline.

This gives new meaning to being a poop head.   Sorry, the voices in my head told me to.

The body is a wondrous mechanism with many systems in it that the medical community is still trying to figure out.  When something goes wrong they don't know what all they are messing with.  These meds effect more than they really know, and even a little minor surgery can screw up an entirely different system than what they are working on.
