Several months ago I posted about contacting my elected officials about the use of medical marijuana, (for some reason can't find the thread). After several more rounds of emailing links to studies, I got a call from my Senator Trent Kelly, well someone in his office, just to let me know that he had recieved the information, and he was reading over it so he could understand my position. She didn't say the exact words but it was kind of a "we get the message, no need to keep contacting us". Which means I'll double my efforts  :emocrazy:

It would be great if everyone would take the time to send an email every couple of weeks or months, eventually they will get tired of being harassed and will listen to us.

I would be willing to put together a copy of an email including research studies that can just be copied and pasted into your email provider IF anyone is interested in using it. But, I'm not going to use those spoons unless I know it's wanted. If you would be willing to send some emails just leave me a note below and if enough people are interested I'll put it together, the body of the email and the links, it will be a complete email, all you will have to do is copy and paste, and I will even provide a list of the emails for your U.S. officials, maybe someone outside the U.S. could provide a list for their country, but only if it's a go.

Thanks for your interest and help in doing this, together we can be heard, and can change things.

I've done this with my elected officials until medical marijuana was approved.

Now it is nearly impossible to find a doc who will recommend it, saying there is not sufficient medical research.  Well crap!
Mention it to the pain clinic and there MAY be repercussions with the visit every three months to get their meds.

That won't happen, at least not until it gets more mainstream. However, the NP I see is very pro-mj, and even does advocating herself so I don't have to worry too much.

I know that I could easily get an MMJ card here in Canada... there are a bunch of BC doctors who would sign a card for the ailments that I already have on the books and as the MMJ card is Canada wide, it would apply here in Manitoba... but I'm in the same pickle as Ron.  If I go the MMJ route, I may very well lose access to all my pain meds simply because the doctors don't see it the same way we do.

The doctors seem to want only the scientifically tested and proven pain relieving med part of the plant boiled down to it's vital essence and stuffed into a pill.  In their minds, if it hasn't been isolated from all the other possible medications in it, it's not reliable enough to use as they can't predict exactly what it will do and how much pain relief it will give.

Fox,

I am new to this discussion but, wouldn't it be ok if they could get the impt parts into a pill?  is the problem that it just takes more time?

I have been having a lot of trouble w/ my pain meds (Insurance Healed me!!) and , jokingly, I told my nurse that I was thinking of traveling to Colorado.  to my surprise she told me that my doc was in favor of the weed.  He just cant write for it yet (until it's legal).  I have never smoked but lately found myself in favor of anything that could give relief.

That's me Bob, never smoked the stuff, but if it will help, I'll try it.

Remember, there are other ways to consume it. Personally, I'll go the eating rout if I ever start using. I hate trashing my lungs. I had horrible COPD for a couple years from an unknown cause - never again if I have any control over the matter.

I agree with you Bob, if they'd be willing to put even the important parts in a pill, that would be at least a start.  One of my meds is Nabilone which is a synthetic THC.  I can't say whether or not it affects me the same as a marijuana pill or not as I've never consumed a marijuana pill... I get no buzz from it so???  The reason this one passes the doctor's muster is that it's synthetic... based off the structure and chemical makeup of THC but having nothing else to do with the plant.  It seems to be the way they want to process MJ... only the chemical makeup of it interests them.

Sad considering how cheap it could be to get this stuff into the hands of those who could benefit from it.  :dunno:
