I have ghosted this forum for a while because I felt I didn't have much to contribute that would help others but that has all changed.  I was diagnosed with a Specific Autoimmune Deficiency IgG3.  This is something that is rarely tested because all the indicators for the category above that is tested may show as fine while this one section is deficient.  Please read up on it and don't be afraid to insist your doctor test it especially if you have Fibro + constant infections.  I got so lucky to run across a specialist in my everyday life that diagnosed me in 5 minutes before the test was even done.

If I can help one person find an answer for their pain my 37 year quest for an answer will be worth it.

I just want to fill you all in on the level of luck it takes to get where it did.

I have been to the Mayo Clinic, the Emory Clinic and just returned from Vanderbilt Medical Center.  I was hopeful that Vandi would have results and proud that I had made it so far so I treated myself to a night out.  While enjoying Karaoke at a bar around the corner a guy sang a song I really like so I sent him a beer when he was done.  Later my seat was stolen so I decided to go sit in the empty chair next to the guy I bought a beer for.  After a few minutes of talking he said "I'm a doctor and I think I know what is wrong with you.  Here is my office number.  Make an appointment."  I told him that I had been tested for everything in the world so I didn't expect anything substantial from him.  With that I was still willing to let him have a try.  Two weeks later I was in his office and he did a blood test.  Two weeks later I was back and he told me I had IgG3.  I pulled up the paperwork from my hospitalization at 3 years old and he confirmed IgG3 is why I was in the hospital all those years ago.

Below you will see the edited details of the man that sang that great song at Karaoke:

He graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his residency training in Pediatrics and his fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at Emory University in Atlanta. He then joined the faculty at Emory University as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and served as the co-director of the Emory University Cystic Fibrosis Center. He has done research and published papers and book chapters on cystic fibrosis (CF), CF-related diabetes, and mechanisms of allergic reactions. In 1993, he left the faculty at Emory University to establish the Asthma & Allergy Clinic for Children, PC in Athens, GA. In 2002, he was asked to return to the Department of Pediatrics and the Emory University Cystic Fibrosis Center, where he treated both children and adults with CF and participated in studies involving treatment of infections that occur in CF patients. In addition to specializing in the treatment of patients with Cystic Fibrosis, He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of recurrent infections in young children and the evaluation and treatment of asthma and allergic diseases.

Today I met with my general practitioner and he mentioned that someone must have made that meeting happen.  I told him that I had to miss my grandmother's funeral to make my appointment at Vanderbilt.  I truly believe she saw that Vandi did not have the answers that I needed and led me to the person that did have them.  I have to add that it is suspected that she died as a result of having IgG3 Deficiency and never being diagnosed.

Thank You Muner!

Good read, but it sure did take some time.  Maybe I need my eyes tested again.   :hi:

The article doesn't make it seem like you would have fibro.  It seems more like you are prone to getting infections & colds.

I did have someone who was interested in checking me for this problem.  I asked if it would explain my symptoms and they said it wouldn't, so I declined.  >:(

I am worried my problems were the result of an over active immune response.  I've yet to get a good opinion.  They keep asking me if I want a flu shot.   :yikes:  I have learned to just say no.  : :( :

I have the same problem, I wonder if it's related?

I will put you in the trunk, and help people look for you, DON'T TEST ME.

I wonder if it isn't more common.  Considering I went largely without a diagnoses for 7 years, I don't think they can figure this out.  I still wonder if all this PTSD is somehow related since they were into vaccinating the soldiers against biological agents.   :emowall:

I just don't trust how they get treated.

Never had infections till "the ear" came along.
That's been explained so I guess I'm out.
