New family members

Eric has been planing for some time now to get a coop and chicks for his mother's birthday!
The coop is very cool. I think it's what inspired him to do this.
She got 3 black copper Miranda and 2 yellow chicks. Anybodies guess there.
So now we get chicken eggs!
I havnt had chickens since I was 13. She was the last we ever had chickens.
Now we do again.
Not sure we could keep a rooster,they said there was only a small chance we could have one. City has ordinances,I hadn't paid attention,but some of the neighbors may be peeve a bit too.

Aria gets to learn some herding skills. Cant wait to see.
Wish I could get some video to share.

The rooster on your box of corn flakes is the adult male.
Right now there black and white.
The female has a bit of copper round the neck,but not like the male.
It'll be interesting.
Already there talking vacines,dusting,vet bills!
We just took them home and let em go...
Mostly even the dogs didn't get the vet back then!

Come to think, even we didn't get the doc till it got serious.
Times sure have changed...for the better???

Same with us... we kept em fed and sheltered and they either gave eggs or went in the pot.  No special stuff or anything like that.  Not cruel, just realistic.

A family story that came from my mother , growing up on a farm . She went out to get the eggs one morning, not happily. She slammed the gate and caught a chicken buy the neck, of corse she thought she killed it. When she opened the gate, the chicken ran off. Ever after that the chicken saw my mom, it would sqwat and tuk it's head in it's body.

  Glad the chicken was OK... guess it was a little more cautious around gates after that too!  Bigger chicken than ever.

Chicken musta been "Duck!!!" and all the other chickens razzed him going "No, stupid.  You're a chicken!!!".  (sorry, couldn't help myself)

Still got 4mos till egg laying,but they now look like chickens.
They fly the coup at will now and Aria has a blast with them.
She stands out there with them all scratching around her feet till one wonders off and she's off to retrieve it, pushing them with her nose. Awww
She looks so satisfied with her new job.

Sammy uses lungeing motions to get them moving but he don't care unless I'm rounding them up.
Thumper loves them but just isn't involved at his age.
Me an he are about the same age, we both grumble when getting up or getting back down.
Oh man, he makes such a ruckus when he's fixing his bedding!
Just can't get comfy.

My bros neighborhood isn't good for dog walking so he comes up here, parks,and walks here. He's got me going now and then and Sam's started asking to go now. The most sadate dog ever wants to walk now!
I think he has a crush on bros got, Shadow.

Isn't it interesting how animals of different species can get along. But, man can't get along with man.

We've topped all our predators and are filling in the niches.
We are predators, scavengers,and prey,all in one species.
