Well most of you know how last year has been for me. I finished my degree and was hired to do a job I loved...Then I had a virus of some sort that destroyed my inner ear, our fire chief was arrested for child porn, The assistant deputy chief went out of his way to make being the safety officer hell for me and then was appointed as the new fire chief and quickly destroyed every bit of moral the dept had. I was trying to slow down and had dropped most of my duties at Search an rescue as well as the fire dept as all I could really do is coordinate resources and keep everything going. Our Fire hall went from twenty four members down to six as no matter how hard I tried no one wanted to be there with him in charge. It all exploded over the past few months as all the former Firefighters and a few who stayed out of stubbornness went to our local govt to complain about the chief. He of course blamed me in spite of the members out right telling him I had nothing to do with it... 9 flat tires later on my car that the police believe is linked to him and the chief was forced out. I have been demoted (which I am ok with everything needed a reset and i'm tired  :sleep1:) I haven't worked a full day since January.
As of this week Our SAR group is recovering well, The Fire chief had been the head of SAR until April and had destroyed it as well we almost lost all of our funding and most of the businesses in the area refused to support us anymore due to his terrible behavior. I fixed all of that and brought in several members to take over all of our necessary/essential work to stay a non profit and receive funding, The fire Dept members that left came out so we are sitting at about sixteen willing to respond again.
The story so far is mostly positive in the end our SAR group made me cry as they said that I had revived the group and saved them from severe repercussions, They said they have never been so well organized crew wise as well as they have the most new recruits getting trained at one time than they have ever had. The members of the fire hall asked me to apply again to be the chief as they all say they only came back because of how I supported and tried to look out for them ( I haven't said yes)
Here is the struggle, I am trying to hand off all my responsibilities and have trained replacements in SAR, The fire dept is badly damaged so needs support but I am a wreck. My health is the worst it has been since I broke my neck. Search and rescue is trying very hard to keep me in charge even going to the point of saying they will do all the heavy lifting as long as I stay in charge and there is no one ready to take over my duties at the fire hall as the ones most capable have not returned yet(working on it) All this to say I am sick and tired my family feels violated  due to the vandalism and I still can only stay on a computer for a few minutes a day. (This took a week to write) keep me in your prayers guy.

:cry2:  I'm so sorry you guys got stuck with Drew for so long.  That was unfair.  Of course, if Al hadn't been such a perv this would have been a very different situation.  I do wonder if the number and ferocity and distribution of the fires this summer a factor in Drew's poor leadership... I wonder if he might have just been in over his head and was trying to BS his way through a job he wasn't really qualified for.  I admit he sounded like a jackass in the beginning but I'm sad he couldn't find a spine a grow out of it.

So, he slashed nine of your tires...  Guy needs some serious prayer and a few months in a 24/7 4x8 cool down room (pokey).  I can't imagine what you guys have been going through especially with your vertigo and fibro and all the rest.  I mean, this is getting ridiculous, brother.  How are Mac and Kim dealing with all of this?

I sure understand how bad it can be and if you need to focus on getting better, just know that it doesn't all rest on your shoulders.  You have been the amazing guy that you are and pulled the BFD out of the flames and now they can heal.  If you're able to stay on as Safety Officer then great.  Asst Chief wasn't a good fit under that the poor leadership... I get that.  When the ladder isn't sitting on a solid foundation, everyone on it is in a shakey place.

I don't have a real answer for you but you've got a partner in praying about it.  Just take it moment by moment.  God will make the way more clear as it comes closer for a decision.  I've got your back, brother. :bighug:

The whole thing is sad as I pushed to get a mediator for him to work through things and he took that as an insult, I feel bad for him in spite of all he did. It is so sad what the crew has gone through going from bad to not good at all. The dept will come back I have already had several contact me about coming back that have some leadership skills so we will see where it goes.

Sorry, but I couldn't help myself! Strange sence of humor. Ize just funne .

Iz funne izn't eet!!  :lmao:

Glad to hear morale is growing again.  With a volunteer department, morale is such a huge deal!  No morale, nobody to fight the fires outside not to mention the ones inside.  :insane:

My boy is back in and helping others get back on track. My sweet wife had a visit from the Former acting chief he came to tell her she was more than welcome to come back on as the Fire dept Photographer though active except from a distance fire scenes are off the table until a new chief is brought on to decide. I am on my way to SAR tonight, my son joined and ended up on 4 highway rescues in less than 24 hours. The local news is doing a piece on how things are going there(Awesome actually! spirits have been on the way up for months as well as recruitment) There were some concerns that the people who came to SAR out of frustration would head back as soon as the chief was gone but they all seem committed to staying on. Found out he had told several people they could only be on one or the other which was a complete fabrication as there were already three of us pulling double duty and we could have used the extra manpower and skills.   Wooh that is more screen time than i am up to but I miss you all and wanted to let you know how it was going.

:bighug:  Thanks for using so much energy to keep us in the loop. We appreciate it more than we can say :bighug:

Gee, nice of the guy to drop by and tell her what she can and can't do now that he's been relieved of duty...  maybe overstepping his authority a bit but I can see his point about closeups at fire scenes.  Of course, she could check with the commander on scene and take whatever they said as gospel.  {jackass!}  Just glad he didn't take out more on you guys.  9 tires is plenty, thank you very much.

That's great news that the department is starting to gel again.  I hope some of those SAR guys decide to help out with the fire end of things as well.  Double duty is the norm in small departments I would imagine.  Most everyone back in my home town did a bit of everything and everyone cross trained on every new gear we got and technique that came down the pipe.  Made for a lot longer practice sessions but then there was always steak and corn on the grill and pop in the cooler (I was too young to drink the beer).

Good to hear the newspaper is following this.  Good news is what folks need to hear these days.  Far too much bad stuff to take up our thoughts.

Be well... rest and remember that you're one awesome dude!  :budy:

Sounds like things are looking up, that's great. Some peoples children just don't know when to quit, they usually end up getting what's coming to them. The  news coverage can only help. Maybe you can start to back off a little now, and get some much needed rest. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Hi Foxgrove the guy who gave her permission was the old deputy not the guy who caused all the problems. It is all good now...        :insane: :insane:
